Why are so few people left handed?

i heard that a long time ago people were forced to become right handed. is that true?

im like the only left handed person in all my classes! then i get kinda strange looks for writng and eating left handed!

but the only things i do right handed are: bowling, using scissors, and the mouse on the computer.

the first friend i made when i moved to minot was left handed.

my friends learned to put me at the end of the table so i dont hit people when i write.

i have like no coordination in my right hand also. do right handed people have like no coordination in thier left hand?
and isnt it awsome that the right side of your brain controls ur left hand! im right brained….

Most of the functions that we use like speech, sight etc are controlled in the left lobe of the brain. There is a 'crossing' of nerves, such that the right hands and legs are controlled by the left lobe and vice versa.
The right lode is used when you recognised a face, visualise a drawing. It is the logical centre. The right lobe also controls the left hands and legs.
So it follows that more people are right handed because they the most active part of the brain is controlling the hands.
Hormones too play a part during the feotal stage to initiate the quick development of the left lobe.
For your information, If you took a random sample of left handed people, the majority(about 90 percent) would be male!

I dont know about that, but yes Right handies are like 900 in 1000

Left hand connotes to Sinister and Right hand connotes to Dexerity.That is left is considered negative and right is considered positive.So till date right handed dominates World will be a place to live or else it will drag.A beleif by many may not ne my personal.

The Romans also frowned upon left-handedness. A left-handed boy who was training to be in a Roman legion would have his hand bound to his side, and would be forced to use the gladius with his right hand. This was done out of necessity, as a left-handed Roman would have interfered with the cohesion of the Roman legions

Just one example of just about every culture on Earth which has at one time or another suppressed people from using their left hand.

No one knows exactly why so few are left handed or why they become that way but there are many theories from simple genetics to the theory stress during birth may cause it.

As for your final question, I can only go on personal experience that I have little coordination in my left hand being right handed. I believe this is due to always using my right whenever possible. Certainly those who have lost an arm or hand due to a tragic accident learn to compensate and use their other hand. A friend of mine who is left handed can do certain activities actually better right handed so each person is different in the end.

Yes. In some cultures they did force left handed people to use their right hand. I believe this was the case in much of Medieval Europe where being left handed was considered a sign of evil and also Japan. In Japan it is actually considered improper to use chopsticks with the right hand even if you're left handed. I'm not sure where else though.

As for the other part of the question, I can't answer that since I too am left handed. I do know what it's like when everything out there is made for right handed people.

I am able to use the mouse with either hand, but scissors I find it awkward to use. When I write with pencil, I get smudges on my hands that smears ink on the paper. Thankfully I do more typing than writing now.
