Although I write with my left hand, I seem to favor my right hand/arm/foot for much more. I cut (scissors/knives), throw, and kick with my right side. Can’t think of other examples at the moment, but those seem to be the main.
Does this make me ambidextrous, or is left/right handedness based mainly on writing?
I had an argument with someone that I’m considered left because it’s the one I write with. Someone told me I’m considered right handed because, besides writing, it’s my dominant hand.
Opinions? Facts?
I’m the same way, only the other way around. I write righty, but everything else I do lefty. I can write backwards with my left hand, and forwards better than some people but nowhere near what my right hand can do.
I’ve been calling it "halfway ambidextrous" for years now, because I can’t think of another way to put it. I still consider myself to be right handed, but it depends on the context. When I’m playing a throwing game, I’ll call myself a lefty.
To settle your argument, you’ll just have to agree to disagree. There’s no criteria for right/left handedness that’s set in stone. Overall, I suppose we could call ourselves ambidextrous, but when writing you’re a lefty, and when throwing you’re a righty. Both arguments are right given the right context.
