how to trim the hair of the poodle in the face?
using only scissors.
In order to get the typical poodle clip, you almost have to have a clipper to shave that muzzle close. Around the top of the head and eyes, though, it’s common to use scissors. If you don’t have any experience or training using scissors, you have to realize that it is quite tricky and can be dangerous to use sharp scissors around your dog’s eyes. If you have a pair of ball tipped scissors, those are the safest for sensitive areas.
What groomers normally do is hold the beard or hair underneath a dog’s chin to steady the dog’s face, then hold the scissors still near the areas of the face you’re planning to trim. Don’t move the scissors all over when clipping, just open and close the blades carefully. If your dog doesn’t have a beard, try holding the muzzle gently as you clip. Be aware that dogs move quickly and if you dog jerks away from the scissors, you can cut her eye or simply mess up your trim line. My best advice is NOT to try this kind of grooming yourself without some professional help, but if you must, the best safety measures you can have are ball tipped or rounded end scissors, a steady hand, and PATIENCE with your dog. Yelling only riles a dog up, it does not calm the dog or make her submitting to your attempts to scissor her face any easier. Patience is the way to go!
Good luck!
