By now, we’ve probably all seen at least one of the SNL skits riffing on Sarah Palin’s interviews and debate skills. But would you guess wig makers are getting requests for hair that looks like hers? Well, at least one  wig  maker in NYC.

The ‘Sarah Palin Wig,’  is the latest head covering to go on sale at Sheitel.com, a Brooklyn wig shop and Web site for Orthodox Jewish women must wear wigs, or other head coverings as they maintain modesty by concealing their natural hair. If you don’t need the hair-cutting basics like a salon, scissors, left-handed shears and a good colorist, I guess this could be one alternative!

“One of our stylists thought it would make a good style, so we produced it,” said Boruch Shlanger, one of Sheitel.com’s owners. “It is very easy to maintain, and is a very classic look, yet fashion forward!” (just a thought: aren’t all wigs easy to maintain, theoretically?)

The Sarah wig is composed of 100% human hair, and is selling for $795. The wig is the first of its kind inspired by the Republican ticket – but it is not the only one influenced by a potential American president. ‘There had been requests for Hillary Clinton wigs in the past,’ wrote Shlanger, who temporarily did then produce the wigs.

Sounds funny to us, but I guess it’s the wig equivalent of going to the salon with a picture of your favorite celeb!

Stylists are often focused on the tools of the trade, high-end shears,left-handed scissors, razor cutting and learning new techniques. But they often get opportunities to give back to their clients and to people in need. One such instance is demonstrated by Trendz Hair Salon in Rockford, which is hosting a cut-a-thon to benefit the organization “Children With Hair Loss.”

Anyone who had more than eight inches of hair to cut is invited to come in, get a free hair cut, and their hair will be donated to the organization.  All that hair is then made into wigs for kids. “Knowing we’re making a difference to a child is a wonderful feeling to all of us here and everyone who’s come in today,” said Trendz Owner/Stylist Teresa Tepp.

These types of opportunities are often occuring at salons around the nation and around the world – so check around! You may able to give back, while getting a free hair cut!

As opposed to watching and waiting for her hair to fall out due to chemotherapy, Big Brother star Jane Goody chopped off her brown locks, recently, heading to a stylist-to-the-stars who perhaps used specialty, left-handed scissors.

Jane said she originally hoped to not be affected by the cancer treatment, but when she went under the knife last month doctors found the cancer was worse than they thought, and they’d have to give her a more severe treatment.

A source told the People that the Big Brother star has had her previously long, brown locks cut short and dyed blonde: “Jade is [also] trying hats and scarves to wear when she starts her treatment in the next couple of weeks.”

The reality TV star was told that she had cervical cancer while starring in the Indian version of Big Brother in August.
