In class we have to find juxtaposition in Let America be America Again by Langston Hughes….if you dont know what juxtaposition is…it is like a contrast between two things but i dont understand in this poem plz help

Here is the poem:

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed–
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

(It never was America to me.)

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

(There’s never been equality for me,
Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”)

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark?
And who are you that draws your veil across the stars?

I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek–
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.

I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one’s own greed!

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
I am the worker sold to the machine.
I am the Negro, servant to you all.
I am the people, humble, hungry, mean–
Hungry yet today despite the dream.
Beaten yet today–O, Pioneers!
I am the man who never got ahead,
The poorest worker bartered through the years.

Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream
In the Old World while still a serf of kings,
Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true,
That even yet its mighty daring sings
In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned
That’s made America the land it has become.
O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas
In search of what I meant to be my home–
For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore,
And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea,
And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came
To build a “homeland of the free.”

The free?

Who said the free? Not me?
Surely not me? The millions on relief today?
The millions shot down when we strike?
The millions who have nothing for our pay?
For all the dreams we’ve dreamed
And all the songs we’ve sung
And all the hopes we’ve held
And all the flags we’ve hung,
The millions who have nothing for our pay–
Except the dream that’s almost dead today.

O, let America be America again–
The land that never has been yet–
And yet must be–the land where every man is free.
The land that’s mine–the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME–
Who made America,
Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain,
Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain,
Must bring back our mighty dream again.

Sure, call me any ugly name you choose–
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!

O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath–
America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain–
All, all the stretch of these great green states–
And make America again!

I’ll give it a stab: I think the main juxtaposition in this poem is between the America of the free and the people that were slaves or indentured servants that held the dream of freedom tighter in their hearts than did the rich. The people that were the least free were the ones who dreamed, and hoped, and toiled for the freedom that everyone else took greedily without thought of how it had been achieved for them. I think it’s a fairly good supposition and I don’t think you would get a bad grade if you used it-at least I hope not!

I don't get it, is it that big a deal? I guess it makes things easier if you're left handed yourself so you can share scissors and stuff but then I overhead my co-worker saying she'll only date left handed guys.. and she's right handed! Are left handed guys all the rage now? I don't get it, someone fill me in?

Thats just her own thing maybe like a phobia of some sort thats weird you don't want someone like that..Maybe thats a nice way of telling you shes not interested–WEIRD—definelty

I'm a hairstylist and currently I am making nothing at the salon I am at ($100/month). I get paid 40% commission and was promised that they would market me so I can build, it has never happened. I have been there almost 7 months. About 2 months after I started I came into work and I found that my station was not how I left it, Maybe someone used it but not necessarily my things. I'm a self proclaimed neat freak. When I was cleaning up my station I noticed my drawer where my brushes/combs where there were dirty clips and brushes and hair in it. I cleaned it out. Then I checked the rest of my stuff, that's when I discovered my clippers and scissors broken ($250 out the window). I approached the owner and informed what happened. Other stylists leave their stuff out and I always put mine away but our stations don't lock. All she did was say sorry and nothing else! I was a angry, I decided to take my stuff home with me every night since then. I also put a note in the back saying not to use my stuff without permission first, if i'm not there to ask then don't touch it (I worded it nicer then that). The only stuff I left was dirty combs/clips, product, hand mirror, and sometimes my flat iron. If I was working on someone and not going directly home I could not take it with me-would burn anything I put it on. So the past 2 weeks we had the holidays and I was sick. I got back to work and no one was there. I went over to my station and again-filthy, they were using it! I started cleaning and that when I noticed my product on other people's stations, my dirty brushes in people drawers etc. THEN I noticed my flat iron was gone. I looked high and low, everyones station, checked my stuff again-I know I left it there! This time I'm really ticked cuz I just bought that and the fact that a pack of razors were missing! I wrote a note to everyone just asking for it to be returned and notified the owner. She called me and told me no one has it and that I have to have it. I'm meeting with her today because of her not doing what she promised as far as building my clientele, that I feel used (i go in even if I don't have anyone and help the other stylist, clean, etc-i work for free basically, 40hrs a week) and I also am giving her a list of my stuff that taken and broken. I am going to ask her to replace this. If she refuses should I file a police report? At this point I am just over working there. I feel like I'm being used and I have no money to replace these items. I just bought all these items new. Other girls didn't take their stuff home and I didn't have to so I feel I went over and beyond what I could do to try and keep my stuff from being broken or stolen. My boss borrowed one of my irons and I sent her a text telling her to bring it with her. Hopefully she does because I can just cut ties right then and there. I really liked my co workers and boss but obviously if my boss doesn't step she doesn't have the same respect for me. Please some advice? I have posted this before and have gotten only 2 replies….more advice please! Oh if I do file a police report could I take her to small claims court for the money I am owed for missing and stolen items?

I would file one, tell your manager/owner that you are going to file one if you are not given the prodcted back, or paid for them.

If they do not do either, then i would file the report that it was stolen.
You won't be able to point a finger at WHO, but the police should ask around, maybe it will scare the people into stop stealing your stuff.

Of course, telling your manager, i would hope she would just pay you for your missing items.

Also if people dirty YOUR (if it is "yours") then i would quit that job, if not only your stuff is stolen, but they dirty your location, making you do more work without getting paid.
Then leave.

okay so i have really thick, frizzy hair. is there a way to thin it without going to a hair stylist and letting them thin it, and/or without using thinning shears? any suggestions on what i should use? anything i can do at home or any suggestions on hair products is okay. i've tried garnier and stuff. nothing works to make it not frizzy. i found the only thing for making it not frizzy is a relaxer. but i'd like something now because it's going to be a while before i can go and get it done. so any suggestions? thanks :)

I need to cut my hair but i dont know what type of scissors i need

Just a normal pair of scissors!

Use a pair of scissors that is meant for cutting hair. These types of scissors have that hook off of one of the finger-holes. Scissors should be held with the thumb in one hole and the ring finger in the hole with the hook. Your pinky finger rests on the hook . This gives you complete control of the scissors so that you can insert and remove your thumb from its placement and you can comb the sections of hair as you go along without having to put the scissors down between each cut.

Alssooo:

Have sharp scissors. There is nothing worse than trying to chew through your hair with a dull pair of scissors. If you do, then you will have horrible split ends.

Hope this helps & good luck! :)
