Shear Genius Season 3 has already been exciting so far. The judges made Bravo’s reality show even more exciting this week by not sending anyone home this time around.

There are four stylists left now, Brig, Matthew, Janine and Jon. All of them were safe after Episode 8 of Shear Genius Season 3.

When these remaining stylists arrived in the salon, they learned that other competitors must select a tool, a style and an inspiration for them to use on their model. This was their task for the Shortcut Challenge, which was judged by celebrity stylist Mark Townsend.

For the Elimination Challenge, the stylists are charged with updating hairstyles from classic Hollywood movies for an editorial-style photo shoot. This challenge was judged by Allure’s Editor in Chief Linda Wells.

After judging everyone’s styles, Matthew was declared as the winner. The Judges said that Matthew was able to successfully modernize a very old-fashioned look, while keeping it just as sexy.

During Episode 8 of Shear Genius 3, Brig and Jon were the bottom two in the Elimination Challenge. Ideally, one of them had to be eliminated from the show. However, both of them managed to hold their places as no eliminations were made.

The judges didn’t send anyone home this time around, but should they have? You be the judge! Give your views about the judges decision here: www.bravotv.com/shear-genius

Barber scissors are special hairdressing scissors that are specifically designed to cut hair. These hair shears are the primary tool for every barber/stylist and hence very important. Many stylists carry their personal pair of hair shears along with them.

There are some distinctive features which separate barber scissors from regular scissors. One of the most important feature of haircutting shears is their sharpness. A good pair of hair shears should be razor sharp and should have a fast, smooth, cut like butter feel! While using them, they should be comfortable and convenient to the hands of barber.

ScissorBoy scissors are drop forged and made from specially formulated premium Japanese Hitachi steel (Super Steel). This gives your barber scissors an edge that stay sharper and longer with consistent efficiency.

The importance of finger rest in haircutting scissors cannot be neglected.  It is a small projection which protrudes from one of the loops of the scissors and is the most distinctive feature of barber scissors. All ScissorBoy hair shears have a permanent finger rest that will never fall out or need to be replaced.

Depending upon the requirement, stylists use several types of barbering scissors. These include Thinning Shears, Lefty Shears, Yoko Scissors, Kasho Scissors, etc. Each of these barber scissors serve a specific purpose and can be always seen in a stylist’s carry case.

Hair shears require regular maintenance and hence it is very important to buy barber scissors of good quality. ScissorBoy shears are designed to fit your hand comfortably and ergonomically. ScissorBoy.com – your favorite website for online cosmetology education was recently featured in an online magazine – Beauty Link. The magazine provided a review of the site done by the Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA) Committee Members.

Click here to read the review

The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) and the Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA) are dedicated to developing cosmetology, beauty and wellness as a career of choice through the professional education of beauty students, beauty educators and beauty school owners/administrators throughout the world.

The cosmetology industry is an interesting industry to work in. To produce better professionals and provide quality online cosmetology education, ScissorBoy had partnered with The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) a few months ago.

ScissorBoy’s online cosmetology program releases a new episode every Monday, featuring top stylists in salons all over the world showcasing their best and latest techniques. Each episode is available for viewing directly from AACS/CEA website – www.beautyschools.org

Here is what CEA committee members had to say about the site:

Kim McIntosh, Xenon International Academy
One strength I noticed is that students would be able to print out the transcript from the video. A transcript that students can refer back to is a valuable tool for them

Debra LeGrand, LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology
I am a practiciing hairdresser as well as school owner. I tuned in to ScissorBoy and there were three videos, so I watched two, and I really liked them. One was Paulo Candido and the other was ‘Healthy Posture for Stylists’ given by Aaron Parnell. He gave exercise techniques for tired and hurting hands, arms, backs and necks. I tried them as I watched and was amazed at how my neck felt.

Kim Schottler, Great Clips
Some individuals in my office watched the Halo section video. They think it’s a very cool website to get some quick information for an experienced stylist.

Watch some of the best stylists in action by subscribing to ScissorBoy’s FREE cosmetology program at www.ScissorBoy.com

John Frieda along with some top salons in Boston, have launched HAIRraising, an organization that brings together the salon industry to raise money for Children’s Hospital Boston. HAIRraising plans to raise funds during the month of May and are looking for salons all over the country to participate.

Children’s Hospital is one of the best and biggest medical research hospitals in the world. However, due to the current economic climate, donations have slowed and that has impacted the works of Children’s Hospital Boston that rely heavily on charitable contributions.

John Frieda says, “We in the salon industry have a unique ability to lend a “helping hand” and make sure our children continue to receive the care they so desperately need. “ His initiative in the form of HAIRraising, plans to bring the salon community together to raise money for a critical cause, and a chance (for salons) to win prizes generously donated by icons of the hair industry.

Participating in HAIRraising is easy and will require very little of your time. If you are a salon owner, you need to register your salon today and during the month of May, ask your patrons to add $1 or more to their bill. You can then send in your donations by June 11, 2010 to make sure all the needy children continue to receive the care they so desperately need.

While raising funds, salons will also have the ability to win prizes and publicize their participation in HAIRraising. Some of the prizes include lunch with Frieda, helping Orlando Pita at a fashion show in New York, assisting Serge Normant on a celebrity shoot, tuition to a two-day seminar at the Arrojo Academy and an opportunity to work closely with Sally Hershberger, Danilo and Rita Hazan.

“This is your chance to join with some of the biggest names in the salon industry and across Massachusetts and save a child’s life in the process” says John Frieda. Register your salon for HAIRraising today and also encourage other salons in your area to register online.
