The cosmetology industry is an interesting industry to work in. To produce better professionals and provide quality online cosmetology education, ScissorBoy had partnered with The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) a few months ago.

ScissorBoy’s online cosmetology program releases a new episode every Monday, featuring top stylists in salons all over the world showcasing their best and latest techniques. Each episode is available for viewing directly from AACS/CEA website – www.beautyschools.org

Here is what CEA committee members had to say about the site:

Kim McIntosh, Xenon International Academy
One strength I noticed is that students would be able to print out the transcript from the video. A transcript that students can refer back to is a valuable tool for them

Debra LeGrand, LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology
I am a practiciing hairdresser as well as school owner. I tuned in to ScissorBoy and there were three videos, so I watched two, and I really liked them. One was Paulo Candido and the other was ‘Healthy Posture for Stylists’ given by Aaron Parnell. He gave exercise techniques for tired and hurting hands, arms, backs and necks. I tried them as I watched and was amazed at how my neck felt.

Kim Schottler, Great Clips
Some individuals in my office watched the Halo section video. They think it’s a very cool website to get some quick information for an experienced stylist.

Cosmetology education is an interesting career option as it offers people a vast range of exciting opportunities in the hair industry. Students are exposed to lots of theoretical knowledge and many techniques throughout their cosmetology education program. However, every student requires an opportunity for practical implementation of their theoretical knowledge, which is provided by competitions like Junior Style Stars.

Junior Style Stars is a popular student competition for the enhancement of careers in the cosmetology field. It provides a platform for future hairstylists to develop their artistic skills and unlike other competitions, Junior Style Stars allows all students, regardless of location, to compete on a completely level playing field, void of all the usual politics.

The enrollments for the 2010 competition were completed recently and this year’s entries saw a whopping 50% increase in enrollment! Junior Style Stars enrolled 324 student competitors this year as compared to 216 enrollments last year.

Heather Chaffin, Director of Operations for the Junior Style Stars competition, said “although a 50% increase is huge, we feel as though we have only scratched the surface for this competitions potential. As more and more schools hear about our competition, it wouldn’t surprise me if in the next year or two enrollments hit 1000 students or more”.

The competition is sponsored by Milady, Great Clips, Clic, JC Penneys, AACS and prizes are sponsored by the industries top manufacturers as well as prominent guest artists and industry publications. No wonder Junior Style Stars is the most prestigious cosmetology student competition.

Junior stylists will get a chance to win great prizes as the winner of Junior Style Stars competition will receive a prize package estimated at over $50,000. There are other prizes to be won which include an opportunity to be featured on some of the leading industry magazines.

The competition is done with photography exclusively on line. Judging too, is done via the Internet. There are safeguards in place to insure total honesty.
