I woke up and felt very stiff. What had happened? Was I dead? My eyes scanned the room and I saw that I was in Abigail’s room. How had I gotten in here? How long had I been out? I noticed Abigail’s parents standing near the window. Jonathan was holding Marie and she was crying. What was going on?

“Jonathan,” I whispered. They both looked toward me and Marie’s mouth dropped.
She ran over to me. “Oh, you’re alive. But… I can’t believe it.”
“Where’s Abigail? What happened?”
“Abigail… she left.”
“Where? Why?”
“We told her you were gone and she ran away. What if she tries to hurt herself? What if she gets hurt?”
My eyes widened. “I have to find her.” I stood up and jumped out of the window. A million and one questions ran through my head.

How had I survived the fall? Why was I in Abigail’s room? Where had Abigail gone now? How long had I been unconscious? I ran through the forest, desperately searching for the girl I love. I called her name. Was she still mad at me? I looked for a bright piece of fabric or a lost girl but found nothing.

I wanted to see Abigail. I wanted to kiss her and hold her. Where could she be? I started calling her name again, hoping she was near enough to hear. “Abigail, where are you?!”
“Joe?!”
“Abigail?!” I ran and reached the beach. I saw a beautiful girl standing at the water’s edge staring at me. I ran down the rocks. I stopped when I was at a measurable distance. “Abigail…” Her dress was a bit torn and her face was dirty with tears. But she was still so beautiful as when I left her.
“Joe? But you were… oh my gosh.” Her voice was so sweet. “Are you real?”
Was it really that unbelievable? “Of course.”
She started to walk towards me and I smiled. “Joe.” She ran towards me and I walked forward with open arms. We reached each other and I spun her around in the air, staring up at the girl I tried to kill myself over.

I put her down and pulled her into me, tightly holding her against my chest. I put my face into her hair and inhaled deeply. I missed the way she smelled. I heard her start to cry. “You’re alive. Oh god, you’re alive.”
“I know, sweetheart. I can’t believe I survived. But I’m glad.” I pulled her face close and kissed her soft lips. The sensation was incredible. It was just like how I had first kissed her: amazing and perfect in every single way.

~~ The Next Day ~~
“I should probably go home now.”
“No, please. I can’t bear to see you leave.”
“Did you tell my parents what I said?”
“Um, no.”
“Why not?”
“I was worried about you, Joe. I was trying to wake you up. I didn’t want to give up on you.”
“I have to tell them everything.”
“No, stop. You don’t need to tell them anymore.”
“But you were so mad. I want to make things right.”
She hugged me. “You already have. You woke up. That’s enough for me.” I kissed her forehead. “Please stay with me tonight.”
“Okay. I will, sweetheart.” I pulled her onto my lap and rocked her gently as she played with my shirt. She was so cute.

I noticed that Abigail was a bit thinner than she should be. “Sweetie, you need to eat.”
“Okay.” Her mother brought us some food and we had a little lunch. I was so glad that Abigail had saved me. Abigail told me everything that happened. I was very surprised, proud, and grateful of Abigail. I wanted to kill Nathaniel though.

“You really drew all these?” I pointed at the drawings and paintings.
“Yeah, I did. I was scared to lose you. I wanted a way to still have you with me just in case…” She was tearing up and I hugged her.
“They are amazing. You never told me that you were so good.”
“I didn’t know I was. I was just passing the time.”
I grabbed the picture that Abigail was holding. She turned to me and I stared into her shiny blue eyes. I grabbed her hand and pulled it to my chest. Her face was close and I was entranced by her beautiful eyes. I leaned closer, not breaking the gaze. I brushed my lips across her cheek. “I love you,” I whispered, my lips moving against her skin.

I moved slightly and softly pressed my lips to hers. I heard her gasp from inside her mouth. I wrapped an arm around her waist and gently pulled her closer. I let go of her hand and held it against Abigail’s cheek. I didn’t deepen the kiss. I simply kept our lips together. I pulled away and touched our foreheads. I wanted to stay in this moment forever.
